Question 1

How do I check my SAPS firearm license status?

Add your SAPS reference number to LicenseWatch. It checks the official SAPS firearm status enquiry for you and explains the result in plain English. Your reference number comes by SMS or is on your SAPS 523 receipt.

I didn't get an SMS with my reference number. What now?

Accepted Answer

Go to the police station where you applied and ask the DFO for your reference number. Take your ID and your SAPS 523 receipt.

When must I renew my firearm license?

Hand in your renewal at least 90 days before the license expires. LicenseWatch shows the renew-by date for every firearm.

Question 4

Is LicenseWatch free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The free plan covers 10 firearms and 5 tracked applications, including screenshot mode. LicenseWatch Pro is a once-off R49.99.
